If you have been charged with DWI or DUI in Leonia, you have plenty of company. While the town measures 1.63 square miles and only ranks 56th in size in Bergen County, the municipality has some of the higher statistics for DWI, DUI and Refusal offenses in the region. The presence of the New Jersey Turnpike/Interstate 95 is certainly a factor in the disproportionate figures although Broad Avenue is also a location for many stops. Irrespective of where you were arrested in Leonia, a lawyer on our staff has the skills to successfully defend you. Here at The Law Offices of Jonathan F. Marshall, we are the largest drunk driving defense team in the state with over 100 years of experience between us, including years serving as prosecutors. We also possess three attorneys who are among less than 10 statewide who are certified as instructors in Field Sobriety Testing by the NHTSA and on the Alcotest. For an immediate free consultation with an attorney at our NJ DWI Firm, call our Fort Lee Office at (201) 267-9895.

DUI Offense in Leonia Municipal Court

All DUI offenses issued within the borders of the borough are heard in the Leonia Municipal Court. The courtroom is located at 305 Beechwood Place, Leonia, New Jersey 07605.  All proceedings, including arraignments, motions and trials, are conducted under the supervision of Honorable John R. DeShelpo on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of the month at 4:00 p.m. The Court Administrator who oversees daily operation of the municipal court is Cherron Gill. There is little that can be done for you in Leonia without the services of a savvy DWI lawyer. The judge must impose the mandatory minimum DUI penalties set forth under the law absent a bona fide legal or factual issue that prevents the prosecutors from establishing a 39:4-50 violation. So unless you hire someone with the skills to craft a legitimate argument for dismissal of the charge, you face thousands of dollars of fines, a license suspension, jail and other penalties which escalate for a second offense or third offense. And even a first offense carries a 3 month suspension if your BAC reading was at least .08% but less than .10% and 7-12 months if the BAC is .10% or more. The point of all of this is that a knowledgeable attorney is an absolute necessity if you want to have any hope of averting ramifications that can be life changing.
