Paul Koutouzakis joined the Law Offices of Jonathan F. Marshall in 2018, bringing decades of courtroom experience and a career deeply rooted in DUI/DWI litigation.
A graduate of Emory University, Paul earned his Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina School of Law at Chapel Hill in 1994. While in law school, he served as President of the Student Bar Association and participated in a clinical program with the Chapel Hill Public Defender’s Office — an experience that solidified his commitment to criminal defense and trial advocacy.
Paul began his legal career as a prosecutor in the Cobb County Solicitor General’s Office outside Atlanta in 1998. There, he served as a DUI/DWI prosecutor for over a year and received National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) training in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) and the detection and prosecution of impaired driving cases. This formal NHTSA training provides him with technical insight into how roadside investigations are supposed to be conducted — and how to identify when they are not.
Licensed in New Jersey since 2005, Paul has spent nearly 15 years defending DUI/DWI cases almost exclusively. He has handled a substantial number of DWI trials, refusal cases, and complex municipal court matters throughout the state. His experience includes challenging field sobriety testing, probable cause determinations, breath testing procedures, and constitutional violations.
In addition to his courtroom practice, Paul has represented clients before the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, frequently working to reverse, reduce, or limit driver’s license suspensions.
Paul’s background as both a DUI prosecutor and long-time New Jersey DWI defense attorney gives him a unique perspective on how these cases are built — and how they can be dismantled.
